In college, Lee joined the club for movement against poverty thinking it was a volunteer group, but ended up being engaged in study groups and protests against demolitions. After graduation, while he was actively participating in community organization of vinyl house villages and new town regions at the Housing Association, the Yongsan tragedy took place on January 20, 2009. Since the funeral, which took place in 355 days after the day of the tragedy, he has been serving as the secretary general of the Yongsan Tragedy Memorial and Reflection Committee and the Redevelopment System Improvement Committee. While serving as the execution officer at Korean People’s Solidarity Against Poverty and the senior researcher at Korea Center for City and Environment Research, he is active in housing rights movement dealing with poverty and housing problems in the city.
